THE ANGLO GOLD ASHANTI PROJECT, COLOMBIA
The law 1450 of 2011 ordered by the Ministry of Environment, Housing and Territorial Development to make the delimitation of the paramos in the country, taking into account the references maps developed by the Alexander von Humboldt Biological Resources Research Institute (IAVH). Additionally, this law prohibited the developing of productive activities in the paramo, which affected all the communities of the area, especially those who have been developed social and economic activities throughout different generations.
This situation generates an interest of the local communities and the institutes regarding the identification and delimitation of that ecosystem. According to that, the IAvH published in 2007 the Atlas of paramos of Colombia (Atlas de paramos de Colombia) in a 1:250.000 scale. After that, in 2012 they obtained an updated cartography in a 1:100.000 scale, in which for the Cajamarca municipally, the limit of the paramo was defined from 3200 m.a.s.l. Afterwards, in 2015, the IAvH published the methods and conceptual basis for the identification of the transition zone between forests and paramos (ZTBP) in the Andean region of Colombia.
