PROJECT SAMACÁ

2012

Study of the delimitation of the paramo ecosystem and its transition to the forest in the mining titles of Cooprocarbón (Samacá, Boyacá)

Cliente: CLIENTE SAMACÁ

The Boyacense Cooperative of Coal Producers in Samacá is integrated by producers who work in coal tunnels since half of the century. They have seven mining titles that are part of 499,175 hectares of the Rabanal paramo, which was declared as an important ecosystem by the Ministry of Environment, Housing and Territorial Development in 2016. As this is an ecosystem that must be protected and conservated, producer and approximately 4000 people who depend of this mining activity must stop the production in this area.

In order to propose a different delimitation of the paramo that includes all the socio-environmental conditions of the territory, the study “Delimitation of the paramo ecosystem and its transition to the forest” was developed through the implementation of the methodology established by The Alexander von Humboldt Biological Resources Research Institute (IAVH).
